Frequently Asked Questions
How do I control my heated towel rail?
Thermorails are safe to run continuously but most prefer control. Wire to a standard switch or programmable timer to set your schedule and save energy.
Can I wire multiple rails to one timer?
Yes, you can connect multiple rails to a single timer. All rails wired to one timer operate together. Remember: do not exceed the timer’s load rating (typically 1–16 amps), and all 12V units must be wired through their transformers before connecting to the timer.
Do 12V rails get as warm as 240V rails?
Yes. Heat output is determined by wattage, not voltage. A 12V rail with 100W outputs the same heat as a 240V rail rated 100W.
Are 12V rails more efficient than 240V?
No. Both use the same electricity for equivalent wattage. A 12V 100W rail uses the same energy as a 240V 100W rail.
Where should the transformer be installed?
Install the transformer in the ceiling or wall cavity no more than 2 metres from the rail. If in the wall cavity, it must be behind a switch plate for access and requires proper ventilation.
Can I use a timer with my 12V rail?
Yes. Wire the 12V rail into the transformer’s 12V side, then wire the transformer’s 240V side into the timer. The timer switches the transformer, effectively turning the rail on/off as programmed.
