Frequently Asked Questions
Can vertical rails be retrofitted to existing walls?
Yes. Vertical rails do not require an in-wall mounting system and are supplied with a transformer and mounts. If your electrician can route power to the mounting points, you can retrofit to existing tiled walls. The 12V transformer is typically installed behind a switch plate or in the roof.
Do 12V rails get as warm as 240V rails?
Yes. Heat output depends on wattage, not voltage. A 12V rail with the same wattage will perform like a 240V rail.
What temperature does the rail reach?
About 35°C without a towel. With a towel draped over the rail, beneath-towel temperature typically reaches 50–55°C.
Do I need a separate transformer for each rail?
Yes. Each vertical rail is supplied with its own 12V transformer. Use one rail per transformer to avoid overload and ensure reliable operation.
Where should the transformer be installed?
Install in the ceiling or wall cavity within 2 metres of the rail. If in the wall cavity, it must be behind a switch plate with ventilation.
What spacing is recommended between multiple rails?
Approximately 200mm apart as a guide. Adjust to preference and allow for any installed hooks.
Can I wire multiple rails to one timer?
Yes. Do not exceed the timer’s load rating. All rails on the same timer operate together. Each rail must connect through its own transformer before the timer.
